After Colorado State’s offense sagged last season to some of its lowest production in years, head coach Sonny Lubick figured the Rams needed a friend.
He brought back a familiar face today, his original offensive coordinator, Dave Lay, who was announced as the Rams’ offensive co-coordinator.
Lubick said Lay will be in charge of tight ends and coordinate the running game.
“All the coaches were in favor of this,” Lubick said today. “We could not have gotten a better guy to help on the offensive side.”
Lay first coached at CSU from 1982-87 when he met Lubick, then an assistant. Lay left for San Diego State and came back when Lubick took over the Rams in 1992. Lay oversaw the offense that won back-to-back WAC titles in 1994-95, but he returned to San Diego State in 1997.
Jesse Williams will return to coaching the defensive line after an offseason move placed him at tight end and special teams.
