On June 12, Boulder’s Dinner Theatre added a special, free performance of “The Sound of Music” just for jilted CDP patrons. The event “sold out” in a matter of hours. Fact is, so many CDP patrons were left holding tickets to performances that will now never be staged, BDT could have had filled its theater 10 times and still not have accommodated everyone left without CDP refunds. But theaters across the metro area are pitching in with even-up ticket transfers or discounted deals to their shows.

Boulder’s Dinner Theatre lost an estimated $3,500 for its magnanimity. And as a special treat, artistic director Michael J. Duran arranged for a dozen members of the “Evita” cast to perform 20 minutes of excerpts from that show — the one they had actually paid to see. His own company followed with “The Sound of Music.”

BDT had a special connection to CDP’s “Evita”: Duran had lent his 17-year BDT star, Joanie Brosseau-Beyette, to CDP to play the title role. So Tuesday’s program was made all the more special by her return to the BDT stage alongside her CDP castmates.
