They’re on TV – and they’re hot.
The contest concocted by Alice 105.9’s morning team of BJ, Howie and Jennifer picks Denver television’s “Hottest News People.”
The results from the online voting are in and will be announced on air this morning. Drum roll, please!
Channel 2’s Natalie Tysdal is the hottest female anchor, beating out Channel 31’s Libby Weaver (which makes this entire contest suspect), Channel 9’s Bazi Kanani and Channel 7’s Bertha Lynn.
Channel 9’s Bob Kendrick is the hottest male anchor, overtaking Channel 31’s Steve Kelley, Channel 4’s Jim Benemann and Channel 4’s Tom Mustin.
Channel 9’s Susie Wargin gets the nod for hot female sports anchor, a thin field, beating out Channel 2’s Geneviève Bujold look-alike Lisa Holbrook.
Channel 9’s goofy sports guy Drew Soicher won over brother Marc at Channel 2, Channel 7’s Lionel Bienvenu and Channel 4’s Reggie Rivers. Weatherman hottie is Channel 7’s Mike Nelson over Channel 4’s Ed Greene and Channel 9’s Ashton Altieri.
Entertainment/feature reporter Channel 9’s Kirk Montgomery had a last-minute surge after his on-air appeal for votes – and beat out Channel 31’s Dan Daru, Channel 4’s Greg Moody and Channel 2’s Chris Parente.
And in the upset of the year, Channel 4 weatherwoman Stacey Donaldson squeaked past Channel 9 cover girl Kathy Sabine and Channel 2’s Angie Austin.
More than 40,000 votes were cast in the contest. Get a life, Denver!
Birthdays
I wrote here recently that Le Central was celebrating 27 years in business and that Sweet Basil in Vail was turning 30.
They’re not alone. The Minturn Country Club turns 25 on July 3. Co-owner Tom Ricci remembers that people told him he was crazy to open a steakhouse where you grill your own steaks. Then he opened two more, The Mint in Silverthorne (23 in August) and 8th Street Steakhouse in Steamboat Springs (17 in September). “We had a blast proving the naysayers wrong,” says Ricci.
Don’s Mixed Drinks turns 60 this month and celebrates June 22 and 23.
And Bonnie Brae Tavern turns 73 on Saturday – with 73-cent glasses of beer and some $1.73 food specials.
