DENVER—Seven newsroom employees at The Denver Post have been laid off, in addition to 14 others who accepted buyout offers last week, Editor Gregory L. Moore said Tuesday.

Moore said 16 initially accepted buyouts but two changed their minds.

The Post, which is owned by MediaNews, took the action amid an industrywide restructuring as newspapers cope with declining readership and advertising revenue.

“For the moment, I think we are where we need to be on the budget,” Moore said.

Denver-based MediaNews is the nation’s fourth-largest newspaper group and is headed by Chief Executive Officer Dean Singleton.

It operates The Post in a joint operating agreement with E.W. Scripps Co., the Cincinnati-based owner of the Rocky Mountain News. Last month, 17 staffers accepted buyouts from the News.
