A man was shot to death in front of his wife and child late Monday night during an apparent robbery, police say.
Three men, who were seen walking away from the shooting on the 1100 block of Akron Street, were questioned about the homicide, said Bob Friel, Aurora police spokesman.
One of the three, who did not cooperate, was being held on outstanding warrants, Friel said.
The names of the three men, considered persons of interest in the homicide, and the victim, have not been released, he said.
The victim left a home and walked to his car with his wife and child at about 11 p.m. when the family was confronted by three men, Friel said.
The victim was then shot multiple times in the upper body, he said.
A nearby police officer heard the shots and immediately responded, Friel said. The victim, who was found lying on the street, was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The suspects, who allegedly robbed the victim, fled the area on foot, Friel said.
Other officers responding to the shooting stopped three men walking away from the shooting a few blocks away, Friel said. Police are not calling them suspects, he said.
Officers were concerned about their own safety and used a police canine on the scene. The dog bit the man who was uncooperative. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for the bite, Friel said.
The Arapahoe County coroner will perform an autopsy on the victim Wednesday, he said. Detectives were interviewing the two other persons of interest, Friel said.
Anyone who has information about the shooting are asked to call Aurora police Det. R. J. Wilson at 303-739-6106.
