Former Denver Post Broncos reporter Adam Schefter is going long. He gets married on Sunday in New York.
Now with the NFL Network, Schefter met Sharri Maio on a blind date last summer. And they’ve been making big plays ever since.
Schefter was in Denver last weekend for the Wendy Aiello-Walt DeHaven nups at Elway’s. He was looking good and acting excited. “I’ve annoyed so many people over the years with my dating travails,” he says. “But everyone I’ve talked to seems genuinely moved by the whole thing.”
Maio lost her husband on 9/11 and has a 7-year-old son, Devon. Schefter is going from living the bachelor life in NYC to living on Long Island with a wife and a kid and three dogs and a picket fence. “There’s always 8,062 things going on out here,” he says. “But I’m incredibly blessed to have her and Devon in my life. I’ve never felt such inner personal peace.”
They’ll honeymoon in Vermont and Nantucket, Mass. Then it’s back to the gridiron.
I’m hungry, really hungry
Colorado knows how to handle a hungry man – and woman.
Beau Jo’s Pizza, with six Colorado locations, serves up The Challenge. It’s a 12- to 14-pound combo pie with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage and hamburger – all covered in cheese. It costs $64.50, and if two people eat the entire thing in one hour, it’s free.
Then there’s the 9 1/2-pound hamburger at Uptown Erie Cafe in Erie. If you down it in an hour, the $25 meal is free. The burger measures a foot across and more than 5 inches high. It’s made with love and 4 1/2 pounds of meat, a pound of cheddar cheese, five tomatoes, two onions, a head a lettuce and 1 1/2 cups of mayo.
And I was just in Jack-n-Grill on Federal Boulevard, where they serve the 7-pound Grande Breakfast Burrito for $12. It’s made with potatoes, eggs, ham, cheese, onions – and smothered with red and/or green chile. More than 100 pictures on the Wall of Fame show people in the clean-plate club. If a man eats the whole thing, he gets his mug on the wall. If a woman eats it, she gets the burrito free, gets her mug on the wall and gets to eat free at Jack-n-Grill for the rest of her life, which might not be that long.
Last one in the pool
Playboy names Sky Hotel’s 39 Degrees in Aspen as one of America’s 10 Best Poolside Bars. Elsewhere, party promoter Kevin Larson is about to bring a weekly pool-party scene to Denver – deets and location TBA. Meanwhile, he’s putting on his Colorado Pajama Pillow Fight on June 29 at Rise, with KBPI’s Calendar Girls slapping the down on Kevin Larson’s Force of Reckoning. Then The Girls of Penthouse vs. The Diamond Girls.
