GREELEY, Colo.—Two people were killed when a small plane crashed near the Greeley-Weld County Airport on Monday, authorities said.

The coroner’s office confirmed the deaths but did not immediately release the victims’ names.

Witnesses reported the plane appeared to have a mechanical problem and clipped a power line on the way down, Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Scofield said.

The plane appeared to be a single-engine aircraft capable of holding two to four people, Scofield said.

Crews were putting out a fire caused by the crash.

It was not immediately known where the plane took off.
