Changes in the Walk-In Program conducted by the Colorado Division of Wildlife will offer expanded opportunity for the 2007 small game seasons. This includes additional access earlier in the season for a wider range of small game and waterfowl species in expanded areas.

Part of this expansion is contingent upon expected approvals by the Colorado Wildlife Commission at its July 2 meeting.

Plans are being made to provide hunting access for doves, rabbits and other small game species, in addition to the traditional provisions for pheasant and quail. Last year, the program was extended to include scaled quail hunting in the southeast and waterfowl in the west.

The extension also allows landowners to enroll more land in the popular program. Payments vary by quality of the habitat and wildlife species involved, but average between $1 and $3 per acre annually.
