Sky Sox split doubleheader with Beavers
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox lost the first game of a doubleheader Sunday against Portland 11-1, but came back to defeat the Beavers in the second game, 9-4 in Colorado Springs.
Sky Sox starter Jorge De Paula (7-4) gave up 10 runs on 10 hits, lasting just 4 1/3 innings in the first game. De Paula, who has given up nine or more runs in three of his past five starts, struck out one batter and saw his ERA rise to 5.59.
Colorado Springs had only six hits in the game, and catcher Alvin Colina had its only RBI.
The Sky Sox rallied in the second game, and scored five runs in the sixth inning to defeat Portland in seven innings. Seth Smith doubled to drive in three runs to cap the inning.
Ramon Ramirez pitched one inning to improve to 3-0, and starter Mike DeJean pitched four innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
Joe Koshansky and Sean Barker each had two RBIs, as the Sky Sox stayed half a game ahead of Salt Lake to lead the Northern Division in the Pacific Coast League.
