The body of trapped miner Dan Shaw has been located but not recovered, officials with Denver-based Newmont Mining said in a statement over the weekend.

Shaw, 30, was missing since June 19 when a below-ground collapse caused the miner and his scoop loader to plunge 100 feet. The collapse occured 200 feet below the Elko, Nev. mine’s entrance.

It took 12 days and the removal of 5,000 tons of rock and debris to locate Shaw’s body. Once recovered, Shaw’s body will be transported to Winnemucca, Nev. cq for the coroner’s examination, Newmont officials said.
