With Jason Hirsh sustaining a sprained right ankle Monday night, the Rockies added pitching depth today, calling up reliever Matt Herges from AAA Colorado Springs. Herges pitched briefly with the Rockies earlier this season. He has been Colorado Springs’ most effective reliever the past two months.
Hirsh is expected to go on the disabled list to make room for Herges, a veteran, who has played for all five teams in the National League West.
