Getting your player ready...

If you want to blend in with the locals in Buena Vista (and who doesn’t?), grab your fishing cap and park your pickup in front of the Evergreen Cafe. Think of it as Bueny’s own version of Mel’s Diner, only without the surly cook and neurotic wait staff. Better yet, think of it as the best breakfast on the upper Arkansas, always served with a smile. The Evergreen knows more ways to serve an egg than Bubba Gump can skin a shrimp, including 11 kinds of omelets and seven more hollandaise-smothered “Egg Specialties,” all including home fries and toast for $7.50 or less. Early-bird breakfast specials kick off the day from 6:30-8 a.m., and the sandwich- and salad-based lunch menu (burritos, too) cranks up from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. After that, you’re on your own to catch dinner.

Get there The Evergreen Cafe is located at 418 Hwy. 24 North, two blocks north of the only stoplight in Buena Vista. To-go orders available at 719-395-8984.
