DURANGO, Colo.—Crews began mopping up parts of a 1,526-acre wildfire Tuesday after it destroyed a home and two outbuildings.
Ground crews were building and reinforcing a line around the fire, which was 50 percent contained. Firefighters had it fully contained by 9 p.m., said Eric La Price, a spokesman for the Bureau of Land Management. Aircraft that had been fighting the flames were sent to other fires, he said.
The fire, about 11 miles south of Mancos and 240 miles southwest of Denver, was reported Sunday. It was burning on farmland and forests left vulnerable by beetle damage and prolonged hot, dry weather and also on part of the Southern Ute Reservation.
No injuries were reported. The fire was believed to have been started by lightning.
The house and outbuildings were part of one property that was quickly overtaken by flames Sunday near the small town of Marvel, La Price said.
