BOSTON—Former GOP Rep. Bob Beauprez of Colorado threw his support to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in his bid for the presidency, campaign officials said Wednesday.
Beauprez planned to travel to Iowa this week to campaign for Romney in the state that is scheduled to hold the nation’s first presidential caucus on Jan. 14.
In a statement issued by Romney’s campaign, Beauprez called Romney the “right candidate to lead America forward.” Beauprez said Romney was “not a Washington insider, but has a record built in the private sector and in public service.”
Beauprez, the former representative in the 7th Congressional District, gave up his House seat to run for governor of Colorado, but was defeated by Democrat Bill Ritter.
The statement said the former Republican lawmaker currently runs a Web site and e-magazine advocating for “common-sense solutions to our country’s policy issues.”
The statement also said Beauprez was president of the newly-formed Rocky Mountain Community Foundation, but gave no details.
