The Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse on Wednesday traded for defenseman Trey Whitty from the San Francisco Dragons, giving up in exchange attacker Hunter Lochte, the team said.

Whitty, a 2005 draft pick of the Boston Cannons, last season recorded 22 ground balls and had one assist in 12 games for the Dragons. He has yet to play this season.

“We made this trade to bolster our defense,” Outlaws general manager and coach Brian Reese said. “Trey is a versatile, scrappy player that will fit in well.”

Lochte scored 14 goals and had two assists in 11 games for the Outlaws last season. He has four goals and two assists this season.

“Trading Hunter was a difficult decision,” Reese said. “He will now have the chance to play on a more consistent basis in San Francisco.”

The Outlaws travelo to face the Los Angeles Riptide on Saturday.
