Getting your player ready...

The official guides to Walt Disney World are expertly produced, and you will get accurate, complete information and be able to get around just fine. But if you want the real skinny, including some not-so-nice things to say about what’s supposed to be the happiest vacation spot in the country, check out “The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids” ($16.99, Wiley). It’s what we used on our last trip to all of the parks, and honestly, it’s pretty honest. Thoughtful dining and lodging recommendations, excellent getting-around tips and coping strategies, a thorough explanation of the FastPass concept and ideas on how to get into some of the impossibly overbooked character meals. Really, you could get by with just this book. What I could live without in this, the fifth edition: alternating light blue type that is truly hard to read and endless testimonials from “real folk,” which frankly come off as random and lack credibility. We don’t need a lengthy quote in light blue from a mom in Snellville, Ga., to confirm that three entrees for $100 in Cinderella’s Castle is expensive.
