Tim Horton, who was hand-picked by new Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun because of his previous experience on the Air Force staff, has resigned to become an assistant coach at Arkansas.
Horton had been slated for offensive coordinator and receivers coach on Calhoun’s staff.
Calhoun wasn’t available for comment, but he issued a statement through the academy’s sports information department wishing Horton well. He also announced changes to his staff.
“We look forward to the upcoming season with Clay Hendrix and Blane Morgan working as co-offensive coordinators and Jemal Singleton serving as our running game coordinator,” Calhoun said.
The Falcons begin practice Aug. 1.
Horton is the second assistant coach to leave Calhoun’s staff before a game has been played. Brian Schneider, a player at Colorado State University, was hired as special teams coach, but he departed for a job with the Oakland Raiders.
Horton was an Air Force assistant from 1999-2005 before moving to Kansas State.
Morgan and Singleton are holdovers from Fisher DeBerry’s staff. Hendrix is a newcomer.
