BERTHOUD, Colo.—A Berthoud teenager was ordered to stand trial this fall for charges stemming from a two-vehicle accident that cost two high school wrestlers both of their legs, her attorney said.

Michelle Berra, 18, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two counts of careless driving causing serious bodily injury.

She was charged following the Jan. 15 accident that injured Tyler Carron and Nikko Landeros, who were both 17 at the time. The two were hit along a Larimer County road while preparing to change a flat tire on Carron’s vehicle.

Berra’s attorney, John Chanin, filed papers in May alleging the boys had been drinking on the night of the crash, and that the two passed several driveways before stopping in the middle of the road to change the tire.

Chanin said he was disappointed that prosecutors were pursuing charges against his client, but that he was confident she would be vindicated.

Berra’s trial was scheduled for Oct. 9.
