LARKSPUR, Colo.—A 21st century railroad and the Renaissance may be headed for a courtroom joust.
The Colorado Renaissance Festival filed a lawsuit in state court this week alleging a BNSF Railway freight train needlessly blocked access to the fair for 45 minutes on a weekend morning when it stopped at a crossing on the main road to the site.
The lawsuit said the July 14 delay drove some frustrated customers away and could have threatened public safety because emergency vehicles couldn’t have gotten to the fair if needed.
Steven Forsberg, a spokesman for Fort Worth, Texas-based BNSF, said the company does not comment on pending litigation.
Festival officials say the fair draws about 10,000 people a day during its eight-weekend summer run. It is held in Larkspur, about 30 miles south of Denver.
