Officials on Wednesday will break ground on a new water-purification facility at Aurora reservoir, the first step in a huge overhaul of Aurora’s water system.
Billed as one of the most advanced water-purification facilities in the country, it will to treat up to 50 million gallons of water per day.
The facility is the first component in Aurora’s $754 million Prairie Waters Project, which will draw South Platte River water downstream from the Denver Metro Wastewater Reclamation District’s plant.
When complete, the project is expected to deliver as much as 3.3 billion gallons of water to the city annually by 2010.
