ALPINE, Colo.—Roads reopened and residents prepared to return Monday after mudslides damaged at least 31 homes, buried cars and forced the evacuation of at least 125 people.
A deluge of mud hit Saturday in Alpine, a small town at 9,500 feet elevation in steep and rugged county about 100 miles southwest of Denver.
No injuries were reported.
Chaffee County Commissioner Jerry Mallett said electrical power had been restored and residents were expected to be allowed to return to their homes by late afternoon.
He did not expect to have a damage estimate before Tuesday.
