COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado-based companies lured $284.9 million in venture capital in the second quarter, more than triple what was raised in the same period last year, according to a report.
The investments from April through June also were more than double the investment during the first three months of the year, according to a report released Monday by Dow Jones VentureOne and accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.
Boulder-based FreeWave Technologies, which manufactures advanced radio and wireless data products mainly for military and government, led the nation with a $113 million deal.
Colorado companies receiving venture backing during the quarter also included Ice Energy of Windsor, $25 million; ARCA Discovery of Denver, $18 million; and Me.dium of Boulder, $15 million.
Nationwide, companies attracted $7.4 billion in venture capital in the second quarter, an 8 percent increase over the same period last year, according to the report.
