PoliticsWest interviewed Jason Koop, 28, a Colorado Springs resident – and endurance trainer – who submitted one of the videos aired at the recent Democratic debate. The field of nearly 3,000 videos was narrowed to 39, and Koop’s was the last video aired.
In it, he said, “I would like for each of you to look at the candidate to your left and tell the audience one thing you like and one thing you dislike about that particular candidate. And remember, be honest.”
What we learned, among other things, is that John Edwards wasn’t thrilled with Hillary Clinton’s choice of coat; that what Joe Biden likes best about Dennis Kucinich is his wife; and that (according to host Anderson Cooper) it’s hard to find someone to the left of Kucinich.
Koop’s YouTube video – as well as a CNN transcript of his question and the candidates’ answers – follows the PoliticsWest interview with him.
PW: What motivated you to create and submit a video for the Democratic debates?
KOOP: I just thought it was a rare opportunity to engage a politician directly, to ask a politician a question without having to attend a town hall meeting. The whole YouTube generation – CNN used an innovative way to capture the audience.
