Two Nebraska residents were killed Saturday when their 2003 Dodge pickup struck a deer on Interstate 70 in Garfield County, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Investigators identified the victims as 63-year-old Gaylord Robinson, the driver, and Dian Robinson, 61, the passenger.

State Patrol said the deer was crossing the interstate when the westbound truck struck the deer, went out of control and rolled down a steep embankment, coming to rest on its roof.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, and both were ejected and killed, the patrol said.

The investigation is not complete, but based on a preliminary investigation alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, State Patrol said.
