PARACHUTE, Colo.—Federal officials are reviewing a plan by EnCana Oil and Gas USA for a new gas pipeline that would run 26 miles from Collbran to Parachute.
The Bureau of Land Management is starting an environmental assessment of the project. Christina Stark of the BLM said construction could begin sometime next year.
The pipeline, which would require a 75-foot right of way during construction, would end at a compressor station near Parachute. The right of way would be reduced to 25 feet when construction is complete.
The pipeline would ship natural gas from Mesa County to a gas plant in Meeker.
EnCana spokeswoman Wendy Wiedenbeck said the line would be up to 24 inches in diameter and is expected to carry 650 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Stark said the environmental review is on hold until EnCana provides more information on the project.
Wiedenbeck said the company will provide the information in August.
EnCana is one of the major gas producers working in western Colorado.
