The Denver Marathon, half-marathon and four-person marathon relay will be limited to a total of 10,000 runners for this year’s event, to be held Oct. 14.
With nearly triple the number of runners registered for the event compared to this time last year, race organizers decided the cap would avoid overcrowding and improve safety for runners and spectators.
“My motto has always been, and always will be, quality versus quantity,” race director Dave McGillivray said. “The reason people are responding is maybe because of the experience from Year One. We want that to continue, and not have people have a lousy experience because we blew a fuse.”
