The Avalanche on Tuesday signed minor-league forward Victor Oreskovich to an entry-level contract, the team said.

The Avs selected Oreskovich in the 2004 NHL entry draft with their second pick, 55th overall. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder has played two seasons with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League.

Last season, Oreskovich scored 28 goals and added 32 assists in 62 games.

“His performance last season demonstrates his continued progress as a prospect in our system,” Avs assistant general manager Greg Sherman said.

The 20-year-old Oreskovich, from Whitby, Ontario, was drafted by the Avs after his freshman season at Notre Dame. He was named the Ontario Hockey Association’s top prospect in 2003.

The Avs open their preseason schedule Sept. 17 with a road game against the Phoenix Coyotes.
