Rodrigo Lopez’s worst fears were confirmed regarding his injury as an MRI discovered a torn flexor tendon. The injury will likely end his season, though no determination has been made regarding rehab or surgery.
According to someone close to Lopez, the pitcher is currently seeking a second medical opinion.
Lopez was acquired over the winter to eat up innings and provide a veteran presence for the rotation. He has been good when healthy, but missed five weeks earlier this season on the disabled list with an elbow injury.
Manager Clint Hurdle said Jason Hirsh will take Lopez’s spot on Thursday and he believes the Rockies have enough internal depth to make it through the season.
Lopez is 5-4 with a 4.42 ERA this season.
