DENVER—Concussions that limited University of Denver point guard Steve Wetrich’s playing time last season have forced him to leave the basketball team, coach Joe Scott said Wednesday.
Wetrich suffered a concussion Dec. 10 during a game against Northern Colorado. He suffered another concussion Jan. 6 against Louisiana-Monroe and missed the rest of the season. Doctors recommended he leave the team, said Mike Kennedy, a school spokesman.
He averaged 5.1 points and 2.4 assists in 74 games over three seasons for the Pioneers.
“I had a great time in my three years with the basketball team,” Wetrich said in a statement released by the school. “I wish the team the best of luck, and I’ll be there cheering them on every chance I get.”
He expected to complete a degree in psychology at Denver in 2008.
