Getting your player ready...

Huge news from Broncoland. I got a quote out of Tom Nalen the other day.

OK, so maybe it wasn’t exactly a quote. It was more like a casual glance. At least he mumbled something to himself after he walked away. Nalen always mumbles when he walks away from a reporter. Dude mumbles more than Shaq.

It’s too bad Nalen has never acquired a fondness for reporters. He’s one of the smartest guys on the roster and, when the cameras aren’t rolling, one of the funniest.

To wit: Commissioner Roger Goodell has ordered that all NFL players talk to the media, prompting Nalen to proclaim that he’s checking out his Fifth Amendment rights.

If Nalen were talking, he probably would remark about the position battles playing out on the right side of the offensive line. Eric Pears figures to emerge as the starter at tackle over Adam Meadows, but the right-guard battle between Chris Kuper and Montrae Holland is too close to call.

Kuper was a fifth-rounder last season and has been painted as the odds-on favorite to win the job vacated when the Broncos chose not to re-sign Cooper Carlisle. But Holland, who started 30 games in four seasons with the Saints, is a viable alternative. At 322 pounds, he would be the biggest guard in franchise history.
