This weekend’s third annual Gateway Canyons Classic will double as the Colorado State Championships for bicycle road racing and time trials, bringing cyclists of every stripe together for three days of competitive riding and clinics at the resort south of Grand Junction. Open to riders of all ages and abilities, the USA Cycling-sanctioned event starts Friday at 8 a.m. with a cycling performance clinic, followed by a group ride at 3 p.m. In between, Discovery Channel Team racer Tony Cruz and other pro riders will present mini-clinics. Saturday’s time trial features a flat 20K course, and Sunday’s road race ranges from 47 to 85 miles, depending upon race category. The $175 price tag includes entry fees for the road race and time trial, three meals and a commemorative vest. For more information go online,
