ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo.—Park Service rescue climbers have successfully evacuated an injured climber in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson said the 36-year-old man from Boston was injured in a rockfall just before noon, suffering a serious leg injury. Additional information on the man’s identity was not immediately available.

Rescuers reached him at about 1:30 p.m. and he was airlifted to Medical Center of the Rockies in Fort Collins at about 7:30 p.m.

Seventeen staff were involved in the rescue attempt in a gully between Batman Pinnacle and Batman Rock. They carried the victim down a very steep area in a litter to the nearest trailhead.
