An 85-year-old man killed when his car was hit by a train this afternoon has been identified as William Lofink of Fort Collins, according to the Larimer County coroner’s office.
The accident occurred at Horsetooth Road and McClelland Drive just after 3 p.m.
Police were investigating how Lofink was able to drive onto the track, which has a railroad crossing gate that is supposed to come down when a train is approaching.
An autopsy will be performed Monday.
