Getting your player ready...

We interrupt this Michael Vick dogfighting story for another update on the Broncos …

As you probably know, the Broncos’ offensive line doesn’t have much time for reporters. All in all, the big lugs would rather eat a microphone than talk into one.

Now for what you don’t know: The Broncos’ offensive linemen are among the smartest and most articulate on the team. They just prefer anonymity. Or should I say, Tom Nalen does. When you’ve been around since the mid-’90s, you can make the rules for your fellow linemen.

With commissioner Roger Goodell coming down on players who stiff the media, the linemen have been quoted here and there during the preseason. Now that we know they can talk, what they need to do is get healthy.

It isn’t just wideouts Brandon Marshall and Rod Smith. And it isn’t just tight end Tony Scheffler, either. Jay Cutler has spent most of the preseason without the left side of his offensive line. Matt Lepsis and Ben Hamilton have missed major portions of camp, Lepsis with a pulled groin and Hamilton with the lingering effects of a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Marshall and Scheffler are back in pads. Now the coaches are hoping Lepsis and Hamilton can join them, and soon. There’s a reason they call it coordinating an offense. You can’t very well do it when you don’t have all your players on the field.
