Getting your player ready...
In search of an extra starter, the Rockies have acquired Minnesota’s Ramon Ortiz for Triple A’s Matt Macri.
Initially, Ortiz will work out of the bullpen and is not a candidate to start Saturday at Los Angeles.
Triple-A prospect Franklin Morales remains the favorite to get that start, though manager Clint Hurdle said the club is considering more trade options.
The Rockies have been looking for rotation help for the past two weeks, calling about Toronto’s Josh Towers and Baltimore’s Steve Trachsel.
Ortiz is a veteran who has played for the Angels, Reds and Twins during his career.
“Ortiz’s stuff is solid,” Hurdle said. “We are hoping it is similar to what happened to Jorge Julio and we can rekindle the same kind of things.”
