A dilly of a beverage
A pickle a day … keeps the cramps away? Well, that’s what Golden Beverages Inc. says about its Pickle Juice Sport, which, the company claims, has about 15 times more electrolytes than Gatorade. “Pickle Juice Sport is a manufactured beverage designed with the taste of dill, vinegar and salt,” the company says on its website . If that sounds tasty, you’ll be pleased to know it won’t be long before the nectar of the pickle gods flows in Colorado – the company has established distribution agreements with 7-Eleven and Valero convenience stores in more than 400 stores in the state.
Old news
Julio Franco arrived Thursday at the latest stop on his baseball odyssey – the Single-A Rome (Ga.) Braves. He said he planned to “enjoy this to the max.” A quarter-century after his first game in the major leagues, Franco, who turns 49 next week, was in Rome to play first base in a South Atlantic League game. He was 1-for-3 with a walk in a 5-0 victory over the Greenville (S.C.) Drive. “My goal while I’m here is to get some at-bats and contribute to the team any way I can,” said Franco, who was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves two weeks ago. Next to Franco, the oldest player on the Rome roster is Jorge Acosta, who turns 24 next month.
It’s a crying shame for Baker
Last year, Dusty Baker was the Chicago Cubs manager – now he’s calling Little Leaguers. “It’s just part of life,” says Baker, who’ll work with Brent Musburger and Orel Hershiser on ABC/ESPN’s Little League World Series coverage that starts today. “I didn’t have to do this, but my wife Melissa enticed me into it. She watches every game. She cries when she sees the players cry.”
