The happiest man in Denver? That would be Jay Cutler, who’ll have his boys back on the field for Saturday night’s preseason game at Dallas.
The Broncos’ offense is working through several nagging injuries, but at least Tony Scheffler and Brandon Marshall will be in the lineup against the Cowboys. To say Cutler has some karma with those two is like saying John Daly could use to eat a salad.
Check out Scheffler and Marshall by the numbers last season with and without Cutler under center. Scheffler caught six passes for no touchdowns through the Broncos’ first 11 games. In the five games Cutler started, he caught 12 passes for four touchdowns.
Marshall? He had six catches through 11 games with Jake Plummer at quarterback. With Cutler running the offense, he caught 14 balls, one of which went 71 yards for a touchdown.
Know this about Cutler and his two fellow 2006 draft picks: If the Broncos are going to challenge the Chargers for the AFC West title, they’ll have to be even better this season.
