Officers have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint last week in the underground parking garage of an apartment complex, Denver police said today.
The incident occurred about 4:50 a.m. Thursday in the 6700 block of East Cedar Avenue, when the woman was confronted by a man while preparing to enter her vehicle, police said.
The suspect forced her into her vehicle and then sexually assaulted her at the parking garage and again at Crestmore Park after the two drove there, police said.
After the alleged sexual assault, the suspect drove to a nearby 7-Eleven at Leetsdale and Monaco Parkway and demanded that the victim withdraw money from the ATM inside the convenience store.
Eventually, the suspect fled on foot after he drove back to Crestmoor Park, police said.
Detectives identified the suspect as David Sydney Preston, 22, and arrested him in the 100 block of South Monaco without incident, police said.
Preston is in the Denver City Jail for investigation of kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault, police said.
Detectives will present the case to the Denver district attorney’s office for consideration of formal charges.
