Temperatures in Denver tied a record today when the mercury hit 97 degrees.
The record was set in 1960.
The rest of the week in the Denver area should be somewhat cooler, with highs in the upper 80s. Thunderstorms are possible each afternoon. The weekend should be fine, with highs in the mid 80s.
Tonight is expected to be mostly clear, with a low around 64, according to the National Weather Service.
A tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning are in effect in Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties until tomorrow.
On Monday, Denver’s high of 95 was three degrees short of the record set in 1987. However, the low temperature of 67 degrees early Monday morning tied the record set in 1973.
Lamar was the hottest town in the state Monday with a high of 104 degrees, followed by Springfield at 103, La Junta at 100 and Pueblo at 97 degrees. The lowest temperature was 45 degrees, recorded in Leadville, Gunnison and Alamosa.
