DENVER—Colorado Mammoth coach and former lacrosse star Gary Gait is leaving to pursue other interests, Kroenke Sports Enterprises said Tuesday.

Gait coached the Mammoth the past two seasons and won the 2006 National Lacrosse League championship in his first season as coach. He was the captain of the Mammoth the three previous seasons and finished his National Lacrosse League career with 596 goals and 495 assists.

“Gary is an icon and has laid the foundation for the growth of lacrosse in Colorado,” Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. “He will always have a place in Colorado sports history and we all wish him the very best.”

The search for a new coach is underway.
