PUEBLO, Colo.—Former Colorado head coach Gary Barnett attended a fundraiser for the revived football program at Colorado State-Pueblo, a Division II school that resumes play next year.
Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen was scheduled to attend the Thursday event but weather kept his plane from taking off from the Denver area.
Barnett said other teams won’t know what to expect when they play in Pueblo “with that stadium shaking.”
“You support your teams. There are a lot of programs in the (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) that are envious of what’s going on down here. It’s typical Pueblo. You do it right,” said Barnett, who coached Fort Lewis, an RMAC team, in 1982-83.
Barnett accepted a buyout at Colorado in December 2005 after a series of off-the-field problems and a 70-3 loss to Texas in the Big 12 championship game.
CSU-Pueblo dropped football in a 1985 reorganization. The CSU System approved reviving the program in May, along with wrestling and women’s track.
