Kara Goucher, a three-time NCAA national champion while at the University of Colorado, set American track history Saturday night in Osaka, Japan, winning the first American medal in the women’s 10,000-meters with a third place.
It was Goucher’s first appearance at the IAAF World Championships, and she ran a season-best 32 minutes, 2.05 seconds. Former Alamosa resident Deena Kastor was sixth. On Friday night, CU junior Jenny Barringer finished 22nd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Anundsen and partner to play U.S. Open
Former Columbine tennis player Sara Anundsen, 22, and her partner Jenna Long received an invitation to play in the doubles main draw at the U.S. Open in New York. Anundsen and Long won the NCAA women’s doubles crown in May playing for North Carolina.
