COMMERCE, CITY, Colo.—Conor Casey and Colin Clark scored eight minutes apart in the first half to lift the Colorado Rapids to a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy, who were without David Beckham on Sunday night.
Mike Petke added a goal for Colorado (7-9-6), which kept Los Angeles winless on the road this season. Goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul was rarely tested in his eighth shutout of the year.
The crowd of 18,086 was dotted with fans wearing Beckham jerseys. He didn’t accompany Los Angeles (3-10-5) due to an ankle injury.
On Thursday, Beckham played the entire 90 minutes for the third time in six days against Chivas USA. He was limping slightly near the end of that game.
The Galaxy are 0-6-3 away from home. Los Angeles threatened early in the match. At the six minute mark, Edson Buddle’s header sailed a foot wide of the left post.
Colorado dominated the final 39 minutes of the half.
Casey faked goalkeeper Joe Cannon to the ground with a crossover step and sent the ball into the net at the 26th minute.
In the 34th minute an unguarded Clark found a loose ball in front of the net and booted it into an empty net. Petke scored left-footed in the 43rd minute.
The Galaxy had one quality chance in the second half, when Alan Gordon broke free in the 78th minute. But Coundoul dived and swatted the ball away before Gordon got off a shot.
