Daniel Graham caught one pass Saturday night, bringing his total to two in the Broncos’ three preseason games.
Which, of course, begs the question: Did the Broncos pay Graham $30 million, $15 million of it guaranteed, so he could block in the running game?
Answer: yes and no.
Yes, Graham will be a major factor in the running game. He is, after all, generally regarded as the finest run-blocking tight end in the business. But no, that won’t be all he does.
I could be wrong, of course, but I’m thinking unleashing Graham as a receiver is on the list of things Mike Shanahan and his coaches are waiting to spring on the Bills in the regular-season opener.
Graham never caught more than 38 balls during his days in New England, so there’s no reason to suspect he’s Antonio Gates-waiting-to-happen. Then again, when you guarantee a guy $15 million, you have to think you’re getting a complete player.
By now, you fantasy leaguers want me to get to the point. OK, here goes: It says here Graham catches 40-plus balls for a half-dozen touchdowns.
