GREELEY, Colo.—Prosecutors were deciding whether a teen suspected of killing a fourth-grade girl in a hit-and-run accident should be charged as an adult.

Jasmine Hernandez and her 9-year-old cousin were playing on a bicycle and skateboard Monday when a 15-year-old boy reversed the pickup he was driving and hit the girls, Sgt. Joe Tymkowych said.

“The driver was backing up either at a high speed or in an abrupt manner,” Tymkowych said. “The witnesses said they saw the driver showing off, doing exhibition types of things up and down the street.”

Jasmine was killed. Her cousin was hospitalized in Denver in fair condition.

A witness wrote down the license plate of the fleeing truck, and police were able to arrest a suspect, Tymkowych said.

The teen’s name was not released because of his age.
