Boulder – Sophomore linebacker Michael Sipili pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault Thursday at Boulder County Court, allowing for his return after a three-game suspension, athletic director Mike Bohn announced in a release.

A projected starter, Sipili did not play in the opener, which counts toward his suspension. He will be eligible to play Sept. 22 against Miami (Ohio).

Sipili faced a charge of felony second-degree assault stemming from an off-campus brawl in June. After learning Sipili did not start the fight but had come to the aid of a friend, coach Dan Hawkins allowed Sipili to practice. Hawkins was in a hurry to catch a plane for a recruiting trip Thursday and did not stop to talk to reporters after practice.
