Five Colorado State University athletes, all former All-Americans, will join the school’s Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony Oct. 12, athletic director Paul Kowalczyk said.
The inductees are Anthony Cesario, a football player from 1995-98 who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars and played three seasons in the NFL; Ron Day, who won two Skyline Conference wrestling individual championships before graduating in 1956; Bob Parry, 1972-76, who set 11 school track and field records and still holds the mark at 400 meters; Liz Toman, who set six school track and field records and was the Mountain West Conference female athlete of the year in 2001; and Jack Upton, a letter-winner in football and baseball who led the Rams in every hitting category his junior year in 1978.
Barnes wins MWC honor again
Mekana Barnes, a junior middle blocker on the Colorado State volleyball team, received a second consecutive Mountain West Conference player of the week award. Barnes was named the Hilton Classic Tournament most valuable player last week after leading all teams in hitting percentage, kills and blocks.
CSU-Pueblo schedules football tryouts
The revamped Colorado State-Pueblo football team, which will field a team in 2008 for the first time since 1985, will hold open tryouts Sept. 19 at Dutch Clark Stadium in Pueblo. The tryouts are open to players who have finished their high school eligibility. Check lostate-pueblo.edu for information.
