PHILADELPHIA—Rookie Kyle Kendrick left Wednesday’s start against Colorado after taking a hard liner off his right leg, the latest injury for Philadelphia’s depleted staff.

Kendrick fell to the ground after Garrett Atkins lined a shot off his leg near his thigh. The ball went high in the air and landed for an infield single.

Kendrick got up, tried to walk it off and went back down, grimacing in pain. He limped off the field and was replaced by John Ennis.

The right-hander has been a pleasant surprise for Philadelphia since coming up from Double-A Reading in June. Kendrick entered the night 8-3 with a 3.78 ERA. He’s been the most consistent pitcher in a rotation that’s been decimated by injuries.

Only 44-year-old Jamie Moyer hasn’t been on the disabled list. Freddy Garcia and Jon Lieber each sustained season-ending injuries before the All-Star break. Ace Cole Hamels remains sidelined with a strained elbow and Adam Eaton missed time with a shoulder problem.

The Phillies have used 13 different starting pitchers. Despite the injuries, Philadelphia came in 2 1/2 games behind San Diego in the NL wild-card race.
