A Colorado Department of Corrections employee has been arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual exploitation of a child during an alleged Internet chat.
Investigators with the Jefferson County district attorney’s office on Tuesday arrested Richard Jefferson Harris, 52, of Pueblo.
Harris is accused of contacting someone he thought was a girl under the age of 15.
After several weeks of communication, Harris is suspected of asking the “teen” — who was an undercover DA investigator — to send him sexually explicit photographs and trying to arrange a meeting, court documents show.
Harris appeared today in Jefferson County Court, where his bail was set at $10,000. The district attorney’s office has until Sept. 17 to file charges.
The arrest is the 50th this year for DA Investigator Mike Harris and his child Internet sex-offender unit.
