The University of Colorado Museum of Natural History is hosting an event today that might baffle a Neanderthal but should entertain curious Homo sapiens.

Visitors attending the Boulder museum’s open house can explore the galleries, touch objects from the museum’s collection and enjoy live music.

The event will give the museum at 15th Street and Broadway some much-needed attention, said Dulce Aldam, the museum’s public programs coordinator. “We are like a treasure that nobody can find. Many people don’t even know that we exist. This will let people know that we are here, and they can come and use the resources that we have.”

The free event at the museum runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and is part of a celebration of UC’s Arts & Culture Week (Sept. 13-20).

Additional museum events in conjunction with CU’s Arts & Culture Week include “Highlights Tours” on Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Sept. 20. Tours begin at 12:05 p.m. in the museum lobby and last 50 minutes.
